SYMPTOM GUIDE
Shoulder Pain — Causes, Diagnosis & Treatment
Shoulder pain can arise from various structures including the rotator cuff, labrum, bursa, or the joint itself. Proper diagnosis is key to effective treatment.
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, making it susceptible to a wide range of injuries and conditions. Pain can originate from the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, or referred from the neck.
The nature, location, and timing of pain help identify the underlying cause. Night pain and pain with overhead activities are common patterns.
Dr. Kshiteez Puri provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for all causes of shoulder pain.
Common Causes of Shoulder Pain
Rotator cuff injuries: Tendonitis, impingement, or tears of the rotator cuff tendons cause pain with overhead activities and night pain.
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis): Progressive stiffness and pain, typically developing over months and resolving over 1-3 years.
Shoulder impingement: Pinching of the rotator cuff tendons between the humeral head and the acromion during arm elevation.
Shoulder arthritis: Glenohumeral or acromioclavicular joint arthritis causing pain and stiffness.
